In the United States cataracts is not considered a health crisis. Globally however, cataracts are the leading cause of blindness and in developing countries people lose their sight every day because they can't afford the cataract removal procedure or have access to qualified eye care specialists.

  • While we may think of cataract blindness as a disease of the elderly, children can be born with cataracts or develop them shortly after birth.
  • When this happens, a child’s opportunity to grow and learn is shattered before they even have a chance.

August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Awareness Month and because it can be hard for us to understand what it is like to have cataract disease, we have compiled an activity book with fun activities and facts about cataracts. This child friendly book will help educate children and adults on cataract disease. You can also see the work that HelpMeSee does by reading stories about some of the children we have helped all around the world.
